Last year we brought you news of the Spartan V track car which gets its four wheels onto this blog due to one simple feature – it is powered by a Ducati 1198 engine. Now the car is nearing production and will be shown to the public this weekend at the Sydney Motorcycle show in Australia.
The heart of sportsbike meets the soul and speed of a supercar to create one of the most elegant, aggressive and pulse-quickening cars of the 21st century, the Spartan. The exhilarating performance, sound and soul of a Ducati is now available in an Australian-made four-wheel sports car, taking the best elements of a sportsbike and combining it with the best of a lightweight sports car.
The Spartan places a powerful 170hp (106kW) 1198cc Ducati V-twin into a mid-engined, ultra-light custom made race car chassis producing astounding performance: try 0-100km/h in three seconds. Designed purely for the track and for the purist wanting the ultimate track driving experience, the Spartan has been born and bred as a true sports car. A roadster devoid of roof, doors, superfluous equipment, with just a small speedster-style windscreen, it maintains a purity of driving so rarely seen.
Now the car is getting close to production and is on display at the 2011 Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter show at Darling Harbor this weekend.
“The Spartan will definitely raise some eyebrows at the show,” said Event Manager Mark Petersen. “It’s been seen in a very limited capacity prior to this and we’re sure it will have visitors talking. It may appear a sports car but draws its incredible acceleration from the Ducati V-Twin. We’re proud to be showcasing such a unique Australian-designed and developed vehicle.”
Only 300 Spartan track cars will be produced, the experience will remain exclusive to the few bold enough to take the wheel. It is said that when the ancient Spartans strapped on their armor they turned from men into machines with a mystical air of invincibility. The Spartan will retail for ~AUD$90,000.
